6/4 Petition to Biden & U.S. Congress

While Journalist Ismail Ghoul was reporting live from Gaza near the rubble and wreckage of the University College in southern Gaza City, Israeli forces began to bomb the area, targeting multiple buildings surrounding the journalist. On the video, you can hear a starving child crying out, “They bombed us! we were just gathering cans. We weren’t doing anything! We came here to eat!” This is not the first time this has happened to Ismail and his crew, nor any other journalist in Gaza. Ismail advised that when they’ve come to areas that have been decimated to document and report on the extent of the destruction and humanitarian crisis in the area, Israeli forces begin to bombard the area, preventing journalists from safely doing their jobs. Journalists are not a target. Children are not a target. This should not need to be repeatedly said, but Israel still indiscriminately targets to murder, injure, or otherwise inculcate fear. These are tactics of a genocidal ethnic cleansing campaign, not a “war”.

This Monday, 6/3, Israel began it’s murderous targeting of the Bureij refugee camp. Attacks continue today throughout the entire town of Deir el-Balah. This is one of the areas that Palestinians were told to “evacuate to” less than a month ago on 5/6. As has been said time and time again – there is no safe place in Gaza. Rafah was supposed to be safe, never really has been, and is now being invaded and bombarded heavily. The “expanded humanitarian zone” described in the leaflets dropped on those in Rafah early May was never really a safe zone, either, and is now being heavily targeted.

According to the WHO, approximately 11,000 Palestinians need immediate medical evacuation to specialized hospitals. They face death if they are not taken to safety. UK based charity Oxfam has advised that 85% of children in Gaza have not eaten for an entire day at least once in the 3 days before the survey was conducted. Children are being starved to death. Women, men, elderly, all life is being starved to death by Israel in Gaza. This cannot be allowed to continue. I implore you to stop this now.

I demand that you: 

– Hold Israel accountable for a permanent, immediate ceasefire, their violations of the Genocide Convention, and gross human rights violations by any means necessary

– Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace

– Secure the immediate release and safety of all Palestinians who have been abducted and held captive by Israel, including those whose indefinite detention began prior to 10/7

– Permanently end all monetary, diplomatic, and military aid given to Israel and enforce Leahy Law

– Reallocate all funds given to Israel and commit additional resources for ongoing humanitarian relief for Palestinians starting with immediately resuming funding of UNRWA

While Telegram channels on their own are not necessarily credible news reporting, I have found the work Praxis Redacted has done consolidating both official news sources and unofficial citizen reporting (before it becomes breaking news) to be credible, accurate, and substantiated hours or sometimes days later by mainstream news.

Since mid-October when I began following the news about the genocide (and Praxis Redacted), I have not found an incident where sources cited or descriptions used were later proved to be false. I have every reason to believe the events cited below are true.

All of the same disclaimers apply for content warnings and my belief in the credibility of the channels cited.
