    2/22 Petition to Biden & U.S. Congress

    On 2/21, the UN OCHA head described the dire condition of the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis as “a place of death”. Approximately 70 of the brave medical staff who remained at the hospital to care for the critically ill, premature babies, and other patients who could not be moved, along with a dozen of those patients were abducted by Israel. We don’t know their fates, but it’s likely they’ve been taken to a death camp, “military prison”, to be tortured, as many other hostages have been.

    Palestinian-Canadian Mansour Shouman, an independent journalist and humanitarian worker, was last known to be sheltering at the Nasser Hospital. There are reports the building he was in was targeted by bombs. The EMS cannot reach him due to the barbaric seige and genocidal activity of Israel. Even if Israel “allowed” an ambulance into the area, we all know those brave EMS workers would face the same fate as those who desperately tried to save 6-year-old Hind Rajab. Even when coordination is attemtped and Israel says they will let EMS save people, they intentionally murder them all anyway.

    It’s not too late to do the right thing. I am begging you to save Mansour and all the other Palestinians in occupied-Palestine who are being targeted, attacked, and murdered.

    I demand that you: 

    – Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire

    – Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace

    – Hold Israel accountable for their violations of the Genocide Convention and all other international laws by any means necessary

    – Secure the immediate release and safety of all Palestinians who have been abducted and held captive by Israel, including those whose indefinite detention began prior to 10/7

    – Permanently end all monetary, diplomatic, and military aid given to Israel and enforce Leahy Law

    – Reallocate all funds given to Israel and commit additional resources for ongoing humanitarian relief for Palestinians starting with immediately resume funding of UNRWA

    – Immediately withdraw all U.S. troops, military assets, and all other assets deployed throughout the Middle East and cease all actions that further escalate a larger regional conflict

    – Pass legislation that voids all anti-BDS laws at the federal level

    – Restore my right to free speech and the freedom of the press by condemning all discrimination or harassment for criticizing any government or political ideology (including zionism) and by doing everything possible to prevent future assaults to my rights, including governmental control and/or censorship of the Internet

    2/15 Petition to Biden & U.S. Congress

    You failed the innocent people at the Nasser Hospital. I have been begging for you to speak up and intervene to stop another series of Israeli war crimes at another hospital in Palestine for weeks now. The attacks have now escalated to Israel’s evil end game. The refugees sheltering were forcibly removed at gun point while Israeli forces used loud speakers to demean them calling them animals, dogs, and other disgusting, racist, and dehumanizing things. Israel is using targeted drone strikes, tank artillery, and snipers to massacre those in and near the hospital.

    The ER was already flooding with sewage water yesterday, and after recent targeted bombardments, including the orthopedic unit, the entire hospital is now exposed to sewage water. I watched footage from doctors and journalists of the immediate aftermath- it is hell on Earth. I watched as medical workers desperately tried to move a man in a hospital bed. Sewage water coming from the ceiling – the man was so covered in debris and blood I couldn’t fully see his face. My first thought was that the man in the hospital bed was going to die. Even if he was successfully evacuated, he was already recovering from a likely leg amputation and is now covered in sewage water which will cause catastrophic infection. There are no antibiotics. There are no pain meds. If he survives the massacres at the Nasser Hospital, he will die a horrific, painful, and slow death. Tell me again that Israel is “defending itself”. Explain how this is self defense.

    Mansour Shouman, a Palestinian-Canadian journalist and independent humanitarian worker, was last known to be sheltering at the hospital. He only just survived his last ordeal nearly being murdered by Israeli snipers when he was trying to help set up tent encampments for displaced people. No one has heard from him in days. I am terrified he has been murdered, or abducted by Israel. Those abducted face severe torture, and eventual execution. Only a lucky few are released from when Israel has kidnapped them from other hospitals they’ve destroyed.

    Approximately 28,600 – 36,600 Palestinians have been murdered in Gaza by Israel since 10/7. How many more need to die before you do something? You have abandoned the American citizens still trapped in Gaza, and other foreign nationals from our closest allies like Mansour Shouman.

    I demand that you: 

    – Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in occupied-Palestine

    – Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid brutally imposed on Palestine, and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace

    *Why are you citing reports shared on Instagram?

    These are first-hand accounts from journalists and other civilians showing the truth of what is happening. I have no reason to believe the sources I’ve cited are not true. These accounts also corroborate the reporting from sources like Al Jazeera about what is happening.

    Estimated deaths as of 2/13 – 2/15 from multiple sources*

    Al Jazeera quotes 28,663 dead as of 2/15/24. Al Jazeera always includes the most up-to-date official death tolls on their Breaking/live updates page. Because the daily live pages are refreshed so frequently for each new day, I can’t link you to a specific date. You can always check the Breaking/live section on their site for the most recent official numbers.

    EuroMed Monitor quotes an estimated 36,671 dead shown on an infographic posted on their Instagram (link to post) as of 2/13/24. Their website has past infographics, but does not currently have this newest one included as of writing this blog post. This is not unusual- I believe they first post on social media and then add to the infographic section of their site later. Prior infographics posted on Instagram and then shown on their site have the exact same figures & data.

    *Why are multiple sources used for the death count?

    The situation in Gaza has only gotten worse since the AP published this article on 11/21. The official numbers we are seeing from Gaza’s Ministry of Health are undercounted, and have been since at least 11/21.

    EuroMed Monitor is a NGO established in 2011 that advocates for the human rights of all persons across Europe and the MENA region. They have a regional office in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. I believe their estimates are credible which is why I quote them, and will continue to, when referring to the estimated death toll.

    My personal opinion is that the true number is even higher than estimated- people are dying from starvation, thirst, infections, and illnesses. Even if the genocide ended this moment, these types of deaths will unfortunately continue for some time. I believe their deaths should be counted. They may not have been shot/bombed/etc. by the Israeli military, but their deaths are directly attributable to the total siege, occupation, and intentional** destruction of civilian, water, waste management, and medical infrastructure by Israel.

    **Why are you accusing Israel of intentionally destroying important infrastructure and targeting civilians?

    It’s not an accusation. They’ve admitted to it.

    2/14 Petition to Biden & U.S. Congress

    The Rafah Superbowl massacres have not ended. Yesterday, journalist Ismail Abu Omar and the rest of his crew were gravely injured in a targeted Israeli drone strike just north of Rafah. Ismail had to undergo an amputation of his leg – without anesthesia or pain medicine. His colleague, Ahmed Matar, is in critical condition from the injuries he sustained. As of February 13, 2024, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed at least 85 journalists and media workers have been murdered, with 320 journalists illegally detained. These are among the highest numbers recorded since CPJ’s census began in 1992. Israel is one of the world’s leading jailers of journalist – tied with Iran.

    From the West Bank, since 10/7, over 7,000 Palestinians have been illegally detained in military prison. Most have had no charges or trial. There are now approximately 9,000 Palestinians in these horrifying conditions as of December, and this does not even include those who have been abducted from Gaza. There are 440 children confirmed in these numbers, who are facing starvation, torture, sexual assault, and other heinous acts by Israeli jailers as outlined in the 2023 Save The Children report “Injustice”.

    The ongoing horrors are too long to even list them all for you. Right now as you read this, the Nasser Hospital seige has gotten worse. Israel has been directly attacking the hospital and has already caused signiciant damage to the building where sewage water is flooding the ER. People are murdered when they try and leave the area to “evacuate”. People are murdered trying to bring injured people to the hospital. People are murdered by snipers for simply existing inside of the hospital. The generators have at most 72 hours remaining as of 2/14. Palestinian-Canadian journalist and independent humanitarian aid worker, Mansour Shouman, is currently trapped inside. No one has heard from him in days. We all fear the worst.

    I demand that you: 

    – Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and all other areas of occupied-Palestine

    – Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid brutally imposed on Palestine, and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace

    Mansour Shouman, a Palestinian-Canadian journalist, is trapped in the Nasser Hospital which is currently under a total siege. As of 2/11, no one has heard from him in over 24 hours. The hospital is currently being bombed. Snipers have been murdering anyone in the area trying to flee to safety. On 2/9, 21 civilians were murdered outside the Nasser Hospital. There are only 5 doctors remaining- Dr. Muhammad Harara and other medical staff were fired upon this morning trying to save people outside.

    The barbaric slaughter is already underway at Nasser Hospital – the same horrific story we’ve seen over and over again in other hospitals in Gaza. I am terrified that those desperately sheltering at Nasser Hospital will all meet the same fates as those at the Al-Shifa Hospital- murdered or abducted to be tortured. The director of the Al-Shifa Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, has been tortured every day since his abduction and illegal detention by Israel. Both of his arms have been broken by Israeli torturers. He is being starved, deprived of sleep, chained and forced to crawl like an animal, among other disturbing acts.

    Every day I pray to God that you will do something to stop Israel’s genocide of Palestinians.     1/28 Petition to Biden & U.S. Congress

    As of 1/28, approximately 26,400 – 33,300 Palestinians have been murdered by Israel since 10/7. You need to enforce international law right now. The recent ICJ ruling is clear – while it doesn’t use the word ceasefire, there is no other outcome that would fulfill the provisional measures required to protect Palestinian civilians. My government has repeatedly lied in regards to this genocide, most recently that the ICJ didn’t think Israel was committing a genocide. That case will take years to reach an outcome. The fact it wasn’t thrown out and provisional measures were ruled means that the ICJ finds there is credible evidence that a genocide is occurring.

    One allegation from Israel that a handful of UNRWA workers, out of thousands, had something to do with the attacks on Israeli civilians on 10/7 was enough for you to withdraw aid funding. First off, you continue to find new ways to disgust me, congrats, but this is you going against the ICJ and proof of your selective enforcement of our own laws, notably Leahy law. The ICJ ruling serves as credible evidence per Leahy vetting policy. Enforce both international and national law NOW.

    I demand that you: 

    – Call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the West Bank, and all areas the Israeli military is murdering or otherwise violating the human rights of Palestinians

    – Secure the safe release of Mansour Schouman, a Canadian Palestinian independent journalist and humanitarian worker recently illegally abducted by Israel in Khan Younis around 1/22 – 1/24 when he was evacuating to Rafah as directed on “safe routes”

    – Call for the immediate end of genocide, apartheid, and occupation, and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom, peace, and their human rights

    – Call for the immediate release of Palestinian “prisoners” (hostages) held captive in Israeli military prisons

    – Permanently end all monetary and military aid given to Israel by correcting our budget and enforcing Leahy Law

    – Reallocate all funds given to Israel to ongoing humanitarian relief for Palestinians to help them rebuild, care for the sick & injured, bury the dead with dignity, and ensure all of their basic needs are taken care of

    – Repeal all federal anti-BDS laws and pass legislation that voids all state-level anti-BDS laws

    – Restore my right to free speech and the freedom of the press by condemning all discrimination or harassment for criticizing any government or political ideology (including zionism) and by doing everything possible to prevent future assaults to my rights, including governmental control and/or censorship of the Internet

    Al Jazeera quotes 26,422 dead as of 1/28/24. Al Jazeera always includes the most up-to-date official death tolls on their Breaking/live updates page. Because the daily live pages are refreshed so frequently for each new day, I can’t link you to a specific date. You can always check the Breaking/live section on their site for the most recent official numbers.

    EuroMed Monitor quotes an estimated 33,360 dead shown on an infographic posted on their Instagram (link to post) as of 1/25/24. Their website has past infographics, but does not currently have this newest one included as of writing this blog post. This is not unusual- I believe they first post on social media and then add to the infographic section of their site later. Prior infographics posted on Instagram and then shown on their site have the exact same figures & data.

    *Why are multiple sources used for the death count?

    The situation in Gaza has only gotten worse since the AP published this article on 11/21. The official numbers we are seeing from Gaza’s Ministry of Health are undercounted, and have been since at least 11/21.

    EuroMed Monitor is a NGO established in 2011 that advocates for the human rights of all persons across Europe and the MENA region. They have a regional office in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. I believe their estimates are credible which is why I quote them, and will continue to, when referring to the estimated death toll.

    My personal opinion is that the true number is even higher than estimated- people are dying from starvation, thirst, infections, and illnesses. Even if the genocide ended this moment, these types of deaths will unfortunately continue for some time. I believe their deaths should be counted. They may not have been shot/bombed/etc. by the Israeli military, but their deaths are directly attributable to the total siege, occupation, and intentional** destruction of civilian, water, waste management, and medical infrastructure by Israel.

    **Why are you accusing Israel of intentionally destroying important infrastructure and targeting civilians?

    It’s not an accusation. They’ve admitted to it.

    The right time to call for a ceasefire was October. The second right time is right now. Palestinian-Canadian journalist Mansour Schouman has been missing since the brutal siege and attack on the Nasser Hospital where he was last known to be sheltering. He has shown us what true integrity and bravery looks like, along with the many others reporting on the horrors of the genocide.

    There must be a ceasefire immediately. People are suffering beyond our comprehension. On top of the brutality Israel has waged on Palestine, so many are missing and their loved ones left in the dark. Mansour must be found. All others missing must be found. You need to use every avenue at your disposal to get Israel to release all who’ve been kidnapped. Journalists are not a target. Civilians are not a target. Israel continuing to do so in spite of the ICJ ruling and global outcry continues to prove they will not stop this genocide until they are forced to. Make this madness stop right now.
